Chinese Buffet

Thoughts for Today
Yesterday, I hit some big milestones, so today I tackled some other new territory for 2010: The Chinese Buffet. I hadn't been there all year and I didn't eat to win by any means, but I ate a lot less than I used to. The 3 chicken wings were the only truly fried thing I had. Last year, I would have had about 4-5 chicken fingers, 8-10 wings, an egg roll or two, a few fired wontons, and anything else breaded. Then I would have added a few of the dishes with broccolli and other vegetables and maybe grabbed a few fruits from the dessert bar to feel like I ate some "healthy" stuff too. As if it would have mattered!  Details of what i ate are below, I guess it's progress.

Another couple good things about going to the Chinese Buffet: even though I didn't eat in the quantties I used to, I realized I sort of felt like crap and my energy was down for the rest of the afternoon. Now how is this good? Because my body's not used to feeling bloated like that anymore and I really didn't like the feeling.
I probably won't go back all that much. Also, I really wasn't that tempted to eat everything fried that I could get my hands on, so although I may never kick the temptation to eat tons of pizza, I think I've made some progress on the buffet front. Good night y'all.

Exercise
None, will barely click in 7000 pedometer steps, but tomorrow is supposed to be nice weather so should be plenty of chance to make up for it then.

Breakfast
Kellog's Fiber Peanut Butter/Chocolate Fiber Bar. 2 cups of black coffee.

Lunch
Chinese buffet. 3 chicken wings. Hot and sour soup with a few crunchy noodles. Green beans. About 8 sushi rolls. Small servings of lo mein, seafood delight, and Japanese chicken. Big glass of water.

Dinner
Captain D's for grilled tilapia, baked potato (just a little butter and sour cream), and green beans. Didn't eat the fried dough biscuit thing, but did have a little of the free ice cream (choc-vanilla swirl). Big glass of water.

Snacks
6-8 malted milkballs (Whoppers). Kellog's Fiber Peanut Butter/Chocolate Fiber Bar.  Gala apple. 1 Girl Scout Cookie (Samoan). Several handfuls of LowFat Kellog's Granola cereal.

  1. Omygosh, the Chinese buffets used to be a gorge fest for me too but now I go, drink diet or water and eat a bunch of sushi rolls and just sushi rolls with little splashes of soy sauce. They're fairly low in calories and pretty healthy for the most part. Good job girl!!!
Oh and who the heck can stop from eating a girl scout cookie. My mom bought thin mint (my fave) so I had to siphon (sp?) them out 4=150 cals at a time. It was sooooooo hard. But they're gone now. My sister helped to devour them so I don't have to struggle not to eat the whole box anymore.
Anyhoo keep up the great work!!

  2. I count myself lucky that I'm veggie because most 'buffet'-type places in the UK and for meat eaters. If I came across one that was really veggie-friendly and had lots of delicious, fried goodies, I don't think I could show the restraint you did! Well done. :o)

  3. I haven't been to a Chinese buffet in about 5 years at least I don't know how I would do. Progress not perfection is what counts. Good job!! When we stop eating so much, it's funny how some foods make us feel icky. I always wonder...is that how I felt all the time before?

  4. Chinese buffets are my arch nemesis! Fortunately for me we moved to an area where there isn't one good chinese buffet (trust me, I've searched everywhere).

  5. I'm trying to face up to some of my old demons too. Moderation is what I want to maintain with. Progress is progress. Right? I can't be perfect overnight. I am doing better though.

    So are you!
